Apple Watch Bands Can Be Purchased Separately

According to a source, 9To5Mac is reporting that Apple Watch straps will be available for purchase separately at launch. Despite the launch of the Apple Watch coming in April, we are still lacking lots of information about the watch. It is a good sign that Apple plans to sell the watch bands as accessories, as it will allow owners to possibly swap out the bands to customize the watch to their liking. Some additional information can be had below:

What we know about the Apple Watch lineup so far from Apple is that it will come in three models— Apple Watch, Sport, and Edition— with each of those models offering a selection of the total 6 straps Apple has shown so far on the 38mm size, 42mm size, or both. Some of the straps Apple shows on its website, such as the Modern Buckle and Leather Loop— will be limited to either the 38mm or 42mm models in select colors for the Apple Watch and gold Apple Watch Edition. It’s unclear Apple’s exact motivation in limiting certain watch straps to either the 38mm and 42mm options in the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition lineups. The Apple Watch Sport line offers all strap options and colors for both sizes, according to Apple’s site. However, it’s possible that some of the straps Apple shows as limited to either the 38mm or 42mm sizes will become available to purchase for the other size separately.

Apple Watch

So I guess we’ll have to see what Apple has up their sleeves, but from what we can see, the Apple watch will be advertised as a customizable fashion device, trying to take the “geek” stereotype out of the smart watch. I guess we’ll find out in April for sure!

Protect Your iPhone: TouchID, Police, Passcodes

iphone-6-touchid-590x330Recently it’s been pointed out that if you’ve got TouchID enabled on your iPhone, someone could technically “force” you to unlock your phone. This takes away the iPhone user’s consent, whereas if the owner used only a passcode, there is not a way to force someone to give that up since it’s stored in their head rather than their finger. In some locations in the US, an iPhone locked by fingerprint is not protected by the Fifth Amendment. Police could potentially force an iPhone owner to unlock his or her iPhone using their fingerprint, however, passcodes are protected by the Fifth Amendment. So, how do you protect yourself from this issue? Well the easiest way would be to power off your phone completely if you’re about to be detained by the police. This way, if the police turn on the iPhone, iPhones require a passcode after a restart; they won’t be able to force you to use your fingerprint. Also, a passcode is required after 48 hours of disuse, or three failed fingerprint attempts. So another way to get around the issue would be to use the incorrect finger 3 times to require a passcode. These are just a few educational tips for anyone who wants to protect their iPhone privacy.
